Today, we’re releasing a new update as part of our mission to make Scale of the Universe a more interactive experience. Earlier in the week, we released our comments section, which allows users to post about SOTU and share their thoughts about the site with everyone. Now, we’ve introduced the new Contribute tab where you can submit an item to appear on the website. We will be reviewing every submission we receive and if we like what you’ve suggested, we’ll add it for everyone to see!
In the future, we plan for there to be many more “Scales” that are focus on more specific domains of our universe, like dinosaurs, computing, and astronomy. To this end, we’re looking for new objects to put in these scales with new art, descriptions, and sizes. If you make a submission, you don’t have to submit your own art, but if you do we’ll give you credit and everyone will be able to see your contribution. Beyond just these scales of size, we’re also looking forward to a long-term vision of new types of scales, like time and depth, and we’ll be creating new engines from scratch to make this possible. For this reason, we’re looking ahead with our contribute tab and including these two datapoints on the form to include if relevant. For instance, if you wanted to add the Eiffel Tower, you can also include its date of construction that could be part of a scale of buildings timeline.
We don’t have a release date for these new scales, but we’re taking the first step by creating the new contribute section of our website. If there’s a thing/event you think could be interesting to appear on a future scale, go ahead and suggest it! The form only takes a few minutes to fill out and we’re looking at all submissions. Thank you for continuing to use scale, and stay curious.
